REPORT ON KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION PROCESS (FIELD PRACTICE)






Introduction: After a brief deliberation between the members, Shamusudeen Rabiu was taken as the expert fellow in the field of sport because of his expertise in the said field, and Akanmu Semiu acted as the Knowledge Engineer/ Analyst.

a.      An Open ended interview between the expertise fellow as an Interviewee and the Knowledge Analyst as the Interviewer.

Interviewer: Tell me what you know about sport
Interviewee: Sport is a field of different areas, such as football, volley ball, lawn tennis, etc.

Interviewer: Okay, tell me about your own special area of interest
Interviewee: My special area is football

Interviewer: Why do you take football as your special area?
Interviewee: This is because I enjoy playing football right from my childhood

Interviewer: In what area can an expert system work in the area of football?
Interviewee: The major expertise that the success of any football club lies on is the technical     adviser; which is known as the coach.

Interviewer: What are roles of the technical adviser?
Interviewee:  To train the players, give technical rules while the team is playing and most especially study the game to make decision as the regards the team formation like 4-4-2, 4-3-3, and make substitution where necessary.



b.      Representing the group understanding in a conceptual graph.

The group decided to use the Linear form (LF) of the Conceptual graph to represent the understanding:

i.                    [Sport]←[Field]→(Attr)→[Different Areas].
ii.                  [Person: Interviewee]←(Attr)→[Special Area]→[Football].

c.       The group decided to focus on the substitution exercise as the specific expertise decision of a technical adviser of a football team.

A new interview session was conducted using the structured questions, further probing to explore a good understanding and the following If..then rules are deduced.


i.                    IF the right winger of the opponent is faster
AND the left defender of the team is outsmarted
THEN change the left defender

ii.                  IF the team is leading by goals
AND pressure is observed on the defense line
AND the goal scored is to be defended
THEN substitute striker with a defender

iii.                IF the midfield is observed to be weak
AND the defense is more pressurized
THEN substitute convert left winger or right winger to the midfield.
